Best practices and Transparency

We encourage all journals to follow Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

Last updated: 10. February 2026

Conflict of interest

To minimize editorial endogeny (i.e. manuscripts being reviewed by a closed circle of people who are well acquainted with each other or work in the same institution), the proportion of published papers where at least one of the authors is an editor, editorial board member, or reviewer must not exceed 25%.

A disqualifying conflict of interest exists if the reviewer:

  • Was involved in the preparation of the article.
  • Stands to benefit directly should the article be accepted for publication.
  • Has close family ties with the author.
  • Is a former supervisor of the author.
  • Is a close collaborator of the author.
  • Is in any other situation that could cast doubt on their impartiality.

Reviewers should be encouraged to consult with editors if in doubt regarding a potential conflict of interest.

Disclaimer

erih+ operates under the following disclaimer, which permits us to delist journals from the journal index without warning:

erih+ indexes only journals that meet its criteria. Decisions on indexing, rejection, and removal are made by the erih+ Team in close cooperation with the National Experts. After a journal has been removed, it cannot be resubmitted for evaluation for two years.

On false claims of indexation in erih+

If you become aware of a journal that is using the erih+ logo without being indexed, please inform us at: erihplus@hkdir.no

The list of journals indexed in erih+ is available on our website and is regularly updated. We advise researchers to verify a journal’s status directly in erih+, rather than relying on logos or claims on external websites. Journals that falsely claim indexation in erih+ may be removed and risk disqualification from future inclusion.

Principles of transparency and best practice for scholarly publications.

Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) are scholarly organisations that have collaborated to identify principles of transparency and best practice for scholarly publications.

As members of COPE, erih+ encourages all journals to follow their "Principles of transparency and best practice for scholarly publications". The principles are currently in their fourth edition. You can read them here.

COPE has also formed transparency and best practice guidelines for editors: COPE Best practices guidelines for editors.
